ARMA welcomes new Chief Operating Officer

13 Jul 2017

ARMA Chair, Steph Bales, is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer for ARMA, Hamish Macandrew. Hamish brings with him extensive experience from within the profession, and an in-depth knowledge of the association from his time on the ARMA Board. The appointment continues ARMA's efforts to create a sustainable association.

On accepting the appointment, Hamish said,

"I’m really delighted to be ARMA’s next Chief Operating Officer, although Jo Edwards is an incredibly hard act to follow! ARMA has gone through a real period of renaissance over the last 12 months, and I look forward to working with the Directors and our members to refresh our range of membership services in the months ahead.”

As Acting Treasurer, I have got to know the inner workings of ARMA pretty well and, having had a day job in research administration and management for the past 18 years or so, it’s a community I very much feel part of. ARMA membership was instrumental in providing me with a pathway into the profession and I’m really keen that we preserve these values of community, lifelong learning and member involvement.”

We have an exciting year ahead, with a brilliant executive team and a new Edinburgh office, a range of new events and services, and lots more opportunities for our members to get involved, culminating next June with the INORMS Congress, where we’ll be welcoming research services professionals from all over the world to Scotland’s capital.”

I’m really looking forward to meeting as many members as I can over the next few months. We’ll continue to incorporate the feedback from our Membership Survey into our forward plans, but, if you have any suggestions or would like to get more involved with our Association, do please get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.”

Hamish takes up the post on Tuesday 18 July. He joins Jo Somerville, Senior Administrator, and Jess Vant, Delivery Officer, in the new ARMA HQ in Edinburgh.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
