Supporting Research Proposals

Mary Ward House, London

Thursday 11 November 2010

Target Audience

Level 1:  Designed for research administrators and departmental/faculty administrators who are involved in the preparation of research proposals, preferably with not more than two years experience, or for those who wish to update their knowledge.

Prior knowledge required

No prior knowledge required, but will build on and enhance the areas covered during the ARMA Induction Workshop.

A one-day event for those who wish to develop their skills in supporting academics in the research proposal process. Building on the ARMA Induction Workshop, the sessions will focus on brief information on fEC, preparing a project budget, supporting academics in the writing of proposals, quality assurance processes, other related issues such as risk management and ethics, submitting proposals and an overview of the peer review process.

Objectives

This seminar provides an opportunity for participants to gain an overview of the processes involved in creating and submitting a research proposal, both those aspects undertaken by the research administrator and those falling to the researcher.  It also considers what happens to the proposal after it has been submitted.  The main focus of the day will be on costing and pricing of proposals and includes a costing exercise.  The day will include a mixture of presentations and exercises/discussions, individually and in small groups.  A comprehensive delegate pack will be provided.
