Stephen studied chemistry at Jesus College, Oxford, staying on to complete a D.Phil in inorganic chemistry before working in R & D in the chemical industry.
Stephen joined Research Services in 2001. He has worked in a number of areas in that time, including research contracts, IP rights management and at the University's Science Park. He was Head of Research Services' science team for three years, leading the group and providing research grants and contracts support to Oxford's science departments.
He took up his current post in 2009 and is involved in research strategy, policy and planning, international funding and engagement (especially Europe), and research information management. Stephen leads the research administration review and improvement programme at Oxford and coordinates training and professional development activities for research support staff across the University.
Stephen has three young children, is a keen cricketer and, to the amusement of his colleagues, supports Middlesborough Football Club.
